A special experience is a day out to the
"Fonts d'Algar at Callosa d'En Sarriá.
It takes approximately 30 minutes on the
motorway to reach Callosa d'En Sarrìa from Teulada-Moraira.
The journey alone is worthwhile, with a breathtaking backdrop of
orange and nispero groves lining either side of the route. One of
the features that makes Callosa d'En Sarrìa particularly
attractive is the rural beauty of its Nature Park, where the Fonts
d'Algar are situated. The Fonts are generally known as the "Font
de Fonts" (Spring of all Springs), and you will see why when
you pay them a visit.
From Callosa it is a short and simple journey
to the Fonts, which are well signposted. On leaving Callosa the
scene is already set: on your right hand side you are afforded a
wonderful view of the valley's water canals and sumptuous greenery
of the Nature Park. The Fonts themselves comprise numerous small
springs which converge to form the beautiful waterfall and small
lagoons of the "Fonts d'Algar". There are many different
paths to ramble through and explore, as well as the natural pools,
which are supplied by the famous D'Algar waterfall. In summer a
day out to the springs is a great alternative to the beach, as the
spring waters reach a cool and refreshing temperature of approximately
18°C - don't forget your swimming things! There are also many
shady spots where you can relax and soak up the atmosphere of the
beautiful surroundings.
The Fonts D'Algar has its own restaurant,
plus barbecue and picnic facilities. There is also a specially designated
camping area. Further attractions include an environmental museum
and a horticultural nursery, where a duct system utilises the natural
springs waters to irrigate the plants and trees.
The Nature Park does not have set opening times,
but is generally open from 8am to 7pm.
Route: Take the N332 and turn off a short distance before
Altea to Callosa: from Callosa, the way is well signposted.
