TEULADA
Teulada is a town of the district of La Marina Alta
known for the beauty of its beaches, the important tourist resort
of Moraira and the quality of the local wines. The inland keeps
great treasures worth visiting throughly. Erected upon the Pla
de Feliu the high bell-tower of the church stands out in between
the harmonious urban complex. The urban area is constructed around
the Church-Fortress, which is full of details taking us back in
history.

The oldest inhabited
place of the township of Teulada dates back to Palaeolithic times
and was located at the Cave of "la Cendra".This cave was inhabited
until Calcolithic times (2.800-200 b. C). From Iberian times, still
some archaelogical sites remain such as the Morro Castellar and
the Punta del Cap d'Or, as well as another one from Roman times,
which survived until the beginning of the 7 th century. Under Arab
occupation, there were only some scattered inhabited places. In
1244,Teulada was conquered by the troops of Jaime 1 and was handed
in by this monarch to the Lord of Rebolledo belonging later on,
to Admiral Roger de Lauria from Aragon and to the Duke of Gandia.
In 1386, the municipality of Teulada was legally created. |

| MORAIRA

At the end of
the 18th century, when Teulada was a farming village, crops were
transported by sea, embarking from the naturalports. As time went
by, locals started to settle down near their working places, dedicating
themselves to fishing. Those small houses where the tackle used
to be kept, started to be enlarged until they were converted into
real fishing houses, at the same time that this activity was gaining
importance. This way how the foundations of what was to be known
as an important tourist resort, called today Moraira, were laid. |
